An Education II – Sept. 2015

Our “self” is a tangled web of experience, perceptions (inputs, outputs), memories, values (learned or taught) and it is a near impossibility to find the baseline underneath it all. What are you? Where did you get that idea? Why did that hurt you so much, and why doesn’t this? Why do you like that? We constantly answer these questions as if we were somehow in control of ourselves, but do we ever know, really who we are?

This painting is a rework from one of my original pen drawings – I’m working on a series of drawings-to-paintings; it’s interesting to watch the evolution of the image by changing the scale and medium. Here is the original drawing:
