Out(Side) of Time

Out(Side) of Time – Nov 2014

I often feel caught up in the momentum of “time” which feels like a constant pressure to move forward towards an end of something. The clock is one of my most detested human constructions, because it’s always reminding me that I exist in a space where things need to happen sequentially, with a start and an end.

This painting is about returning to reality after experiencing a beautiful break outside of the construct of time. These breaks can be experienced in the form of psychedelic states (from exogenous compounds or meditation), beautiful heart-opening and mind-expanding conversations, deep intimate connections, the flow state in creativity or athletics, pure inspiration or pure love.

I always feel a bit sad coming back to the world of time and traffic and money and clocks, but I know that these little breaks from monotony are only magical because they are so rare.
